Many of us
celebrated May 1 as a national holiday; they called it “Labor Day”. A national holiday usually celebrated by having
many job fairs nationwide, to give job opportunity to our fellow Filipino
people. Some of them are in the rally opposing the current government administration for the employment and unemployment status, as well as the salary of laborers in the country.
According to the
Philippine History, the first Labour Day celebration was held May 1, 1903 in a
mammoth rally in front of Malacañan Palace staged by the Union Obrera
Democratica (Democratic Laborer’s Union), while compelling for workers’
economic rights.
Philippines will mark the annual celebration of
the Labor Day this coming May 1, 2014 which falls on Thursday with the theme “Sa
Sipag, Tiyaga, at Talino, Buong Mundo Saludo sa Manggagawang Pilipino.” The
Labor Day is listed as one of the country’s 15 national holidays for 2014 based
upon Proclamation 655 signed by President Benigno Simeon Aquino III.
Usual scene during labor day: A protest and rally |
But, for these advocates from Helping Hand Central Luzon (includes doctors,
nurses and other health care professionals, professionals, in police & military
services) they celebrated this national holiday trough a Medical, Dental,
Legal, Optical and Operation Circumcision Mission at National Housing Area Site
2 in Southville 7, Brgy, Dayap, Calauan, Laguna through the effort of the Association of Past Pupils of Salesian
Houses of Formation Inc. (APPSHFI) – NCR chapter.
Around 300 – 500 families residents availed
these free medical, dental, optical and operation circumcision wherein HHCL nurses
takes place in tandem with volunteer doctors and other. These families in the resettlement
site come from Marikina Floodway and nearby cities and now under the care of
the Don Bosco Caluan and Buklod Kalinga Para sa Kapwa Association.
Though these year theme, it is right to give
commendation and thanks for those people who worked and give their ample time
to serve humanity through this missions without expecting and gaining
anything from it. It is just a pure essence of good work, passion, advocacy and
patriotism. Thank you, Helping Hand Central Luzon for allowing me to join this
magnificent group.
Bunga Falls, Nagcarlan, Laguna |
Moreover, after the success of the event, the
HHCL nurses and advocates immediately run to Bunga Falls in Nagcarlan, Laguna a
nearby town from Calauan (approx 30 minute ride from Caluan) to swim and visit
the falls. From the car park in the area you need to walk around 100 meters going
down to reach the beauty of nature. Advocates enjoyed swimming in the falls through
the rented "salbabida". Ohh! Before I forget, The entrance fee is just five pesos (Php 5.00) only.
Dinner is served though a boodle fight with grilled
tulingan and smoked fish as our food, followed by a drinking session and videoke
after as our celebration for the success of the event and bonding session. We’re tired from our travel time, but we’re
happy and satisfied.
